Gonzalez-Strength & Associates, Inc. (GSA) is seeking a Graduate Engineering Technician to join our Hoover office.  GSA is a consulting engineering firm with specialties in Land Planning, Site Civil, Landscape Architecture, Transportation, Infrastructure, Land Surveying, Pipeline Surveying, and Pipeline Engineering.  GSA is seeking to fill a position for the Site Civil department.  Candidates will be active in the designing of public and private sector developments.  Project sizes range from approximately one (1) acre to several hundred acres.   Project types include residential subdivision, commercial retail, office developments, public / municipal buildings, institutional, military, and nonprofit developments.  Experience in conceptual planning, and developing construction documents are beneficial, although not required. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and SITEOPS is also beneficial. This position includes taking design instruction and developing construction documents for land planning, grading, storm drainage, utilities, sediment control, and details. This process includes concept plans, documents for regulatory agencies, and finally construction plans for detailed construction.

General Characteristics:

Will acquire basic knowledge and computer skills to complete assignments in a timely manner.

Will apply company standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to create exceptional quality construction documents.

Will  be allowed to exercise limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods to meet project goals and timelines.

Technical Responsibilities:

Will perform basic design tasks.

Will assist on other tasks such as: due diligence, code research, civil construction documents, and computer-aided design (CAD) work.

Direction Received:

Will report to Project Manager

GSA will provide close supervision on unusual or difficult problems and detailed review of all aspects of work. 

Communication Skills:

Position includes interaction with staff, general public, officials, and contractors.

Professional Activities:

Prior participation in drafting competition is a plus.

Education Requirements:

Associate in Applied Science (AAS) from an accredited school.

A short test to demonstrate drafting ability maybe required.

SURVEYING RODMAN

Role and Responsibilities

The Survey Rodman will be responsible for supporting Surveyors and surveying crews during the measurement of land and grade.

• Visit work/construction sites for land measurements
• Using basic mathematics and reading numerals
• Provide accurate survey rod readings at request and direction of Crew Chief
• Work in varying weather conditions and work diverse environments
• Comply with all policies, procedures, and safety requirements
• Perform any other general duties as specified

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• 0-1 years of experience assisting in surveying procedures, operations and providing survey rod readings.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
• Must have the ability to stand, crawl and kneel

Transportation Engineer - EI

Job Responsibilities:
• Work with clients such as the state, cities and counties of Alabama, in addition to private clients
• Prepare engineering plans, construction documents, maps, reports, construction cost estimates and other
project related items
• Design projects that include public and private road systems, grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control,
and traffic control plans
• Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, soil and material reports, and
government regulations
• Perform drainage and hydraulics calculations
• Work under the supervision of a Project Manager

Training / Experience
• 0-3 years Design Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
• E.I. required from the State of Alabama
• Experience with MicroStation and Inroads, experience in Openroads is encouraged
• Strong analytical skills and good technical writing ability
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and work well with coworkers, clients and contractors
• Strong working knowledge of general civil engineering principles
• Willingness to learn new programs for design
• Must be willing to work flexible schedules, overtime as needed

• Provide technical guidance and oversight to team members as needed

Training / Experience
• 4-10 years Design Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
• P.E. required from the State of Alabama
• Extensive knowledge of MicroStation and Inroads, experience in Openroads is encouraged
• Experience with drainage programs such as StormCAD, Culvert Master, HYCHL, North American Green
• Ability to create 3-D models and renderings preferred
• Strong analytical skills and good technical writing ability
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and work well with coworkers, clients and contractors
• Strong working knowledge of general civil engineering principles
• Must be willing to work flexible schedules, overtime as needed
